    Services

    Swedish Massage Therapy

Swedish massage is the combination of techniques rolled into one session. During this therapy session, your therapist will work with the soft tissues and muscles in the body to help restore balance and health.

The end result will relax all of the muscles in your body and to release any pain that tension may exist.

A Swedish massage is a perfect way for anyone who is overworked and stressed to relax their body and mind. By relieving muscle tension, Swedish therapy can be both relaxing and energizing.

    Neuromuscular

    Manual Therapy

Neuromuscular therapy is a specialized form of deep tissue massage in which digital pressure and friction are used to release areas of strain in the muscle.

NMT is highly effective for clients who present with chronic pain and is often successful in reducing or eliminating even longstanding painful conditions. Some of the techniques can also be applied to acute injuries and for post-surgical care; many help to improve performance in sports or dance and to prevent injuries due to these activities.

    Deep Tissue Massage

    Natural Healing

With our Deep Tissue Massage therapy, clients claim to feel relaxed and renewed after each session. We tailor your session to work on your specific goals and needs. We love showing our clients how just a few treatments can make an enormous difference to their health.

    Trigger Point Therapy

    An Ancient Science

We help patients reduce their stress and anxiety, among other ailments.

    Reflexology

Holistic medicine is a broad range of medical practices that are based on many years of tradition. With our Reflexology treatment, your body and mind will feel free and clear of all worries and stress that life places upon us. We are trained in a variety of holistic techniques that will surely help to heal you both mentally and physically.

    Orthopedic Massage Therapy

Orthopedic Massage (OM) describes a comprehensive system, rather than a single technique, that involves therapeutic assessment, manipulation, and movement of soft tissues to resolve pain and dysfunction. OM's focus is restoring function and structural balance throughout the body for both prevention and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal dysfunctions. OM takes a multidisciplinary approach that looks to resolve the origin of the pain and dysfunction either from trauma-induced injuries or postural imbalances that exacerbate the pain through daily activities. Common orthopedic conditions can stem from sports injuries, postural imbalances due to poor work ergonomics, chronic pain and scar tissue from surgery or traumatic injury.

    Oncology Massage

Proudly trained at Tracy Walton intensive course

Oncology massage is the modification of existing massage therapy techniques in order to safely work with complications of cancer and cancer treatment. Anyone who has ever received cancer treatment, from those in active treatment to those in recovery or survivorship, as well as those at the end of life, are best served by a massage therapist who has received training in oncology massage.

Essential aspects of an oncology massage therapist's skill set are an informed understanding of the disease itself and the many ways it can affect the human body; the side effects of cancer treatments, such as medications, surgery

    Active Isolated Stretching

Active Isolated Stretching (AIS) is one of the methods of stretching most used by today's athletes, massage therapists, personal/athletic trainers, and professionals. Active Isolated Stretching allows the body to repair itself and also to prepare for daily activity. The Active Isolated Stretching technique involves the method of holding each stretch for only two seconds. This method of stretching is also known to work with the body's natural physiological makeup to improve circulation and increase the elasticity of muscle joints and fascia.

    Lomi Lomi

Lomilomi is a traditional Hawaiian massage that devotees say it is extremely spiritual. But what is it and how does it work? Here are seven facts you might not know about this massage technique.
    Loving hands
‘Lomilomi’ means rub or massage, but is also known as ‘loving hands’ because it’s meant to be a nurturing, healing practice done with love and good intentions.
It’s rooted in the ancient Hawaiian philosophy of Huna, which says that the mind, body and spirit are all connected, and so works on the whole person, not just the muscles.
    Use your intuition
There’s no set format or sequence in Lomilomi; no two massages are the same, just as no two clients are the same. Instead, therapists work intuitively to meet the needs of each individual person.
Because Lomilomi was traditionally passed down within families on Hawaii, different strands have developed that use different techniques, but they all agree that you need to take a slow, meditative approach to put your client completely at ease.
    (Not just) hands-on
To perform Lomilomi properly you need to use more than just your hands. Therapists use their forearms and elbows, and even their knees and feet. The technique is to work gently yet deeply with long, flowing under and full body strokes. These rhythmic movements often remind clients of gentle ocean waves washing over them.
    Energy flow
Hawaiians traditionally believe that the flow of energy through the body is extremely important and that blockages can occur in both mind and muscle. Because Huna says everything is connected, if the mind is blocked by stress or you have muscle tension, it will affect the whole person.
With Lomilomi, your goal is to put clients into a deeply relaxed state so they can let go and any blockages can be released. It’s just as much about releasing a client’s mental anxiety and tension as it is about massaging their muscles.
    The more the merrier
If you want to give your clients an amazing Lomilomi experience, consider working with another therapist. According to experts having four or more hands working together sends the client into an even greater state of relaxation, as the brain can’t focus on all the hands at the same time.
Therapists working alone often mimic this by massaging two different parts of the body at once, for example, one hand working on a shoulder and the other on the opposite hip.
    Do a little dance
While channeling your good intentions and performing Lomilomi in a loving way, you also need to maintain your own energy. This is done through your movements – therapists perform a hula dance around the table as they work, which assists the energy flow in the room.
Therapists also usually start the session by saying a short ‘pule’, a blessing or prayer, to ask for healing to take place, and talk to clients about incorporating things like meditation or a change of diet into their routine.
    Show some skin
Clients should be prepared to show a bit more skin during Lomilomi than in other massages. Because it focuses on the whole body, with multiple areas being worked on at once, clients generally lie directly on the table with only a small towel covering them. This makes it easier to perform underbody and full body strokes without interrupting the flow

    Reiki

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy". So Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force energy."

A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind, and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing. Many have reported miraculous results.

Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and malady and always creates a beneficial effect. It also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.

An amazingly simple technique to learn, the ability to use Reiki is not taught in the usual sense but is transferred to the student during a Reiki class. This ability is passed on during an "attunement" given by a Reiki master and allows the student to tap into an unlimited supply of "life force energy" to improve one's health and enhance the quality of life.

Scar Tissue Mobilization for the Post-Mastectomy/Post-Radiation

Many breast cancer survivors experience pain, lymphedema, and shoulder dysfunction.

Massage can help encourage the body to lay fibers down in a more organized manner, keeping the tissue pliable as it is forming, which can reduce pull on the incision and the surrounding tissues. Massage can also help create space and alignment in surrounding muscle tissue, such as in the upper chest and shoulders, which may be very tight after surgery. Lymphatic drainage massage can aid in keeping lymph circulation flowing, which can help reduce swelling. We understand the effects of surgery and radiation on the tissues and how scar tissue mobilization can restore healthy functioning to the fascial/musculoskeletal system.

    Scar Tissue Release

    The STRAIT method™
The Scar Tissue Release and Integrated Therapies method —STRAIT™, for short — is a three-dimensional, fascial-release system that works to minimize scar-tissue development and the subsequent physiological restrictions. Adhered tissues are released and then realigned from their starting point, which is the visible scar, to their end point — where the line of frozen fascia stops. No matter how new or old your scar, Scar Tissue Release Therapy can help. Even decades-old scars can be released.
    Benefits of scar-tissue release therapy:

There are multiple reasons to undergo scar tissue release therapy.

    • Lessens the appearance of scars
    • Helps to prevent and reduce adhesions forming after injury or surgery
    • Restore nerve function including numbness, pain, and sensitivity
    • Reduce pain and restriction (including cording and dragging)
    • Helps to relieve stress on the body from fascial tension
    • Improves flexibility
    • Reduces muscle spasms
    • Promotes balance in the body
    • Helps maintain good posture
    • Improves athletic performance
    • Reduces the risk of muscle tears and strains
    • Improves the flow of oxygen and nutrients through the body
    • Helps regain and maintain a full range of joint movement
    • Stimulates lymph circulation
    • Reduces the possibility of long-term problems due to fascial adhesions

What are the benefits of therapeutic massage?

Most massage techniques are designed to promote pain relief, stress reduction, and improved movement in daily living.

Therapeutic massage has been shown to improve joint flexibility, relieve lower-back pain, and stimulate the release of endorphins. It can also be used to treat and prevent the following conditions:

    • Arthritis
    • Sports injuries, work-related injuries and repetitive strain injuries (carpal tunnel, plantar fasciitis, tendonitis, bursitis)
    • Anxiety, depression, tension, and stress
    • Walking or running-related pain
    • Poor posture and suboptimal use of the body in movement

Therapeutic massage manipulates the body’s soft tissue, so it also stimulates the flow of fluid in the lymphatic system, which can improve natural immunity. In addition, when received soon after surgery, therapeutic massage can help reduce post-surgery swelling or adhesions.

    MASSAGE THERAPY FOR FIBROMYALGIA RELIEF

Fibromyalgia is a complex syndrome with symptoms that include widespread pain, anxiety, depression, difficulty sleeping, and trouble with mental tasks. Fibromyalgia sufferers often seek complementary and alternative (CAM) therapies for relief–as many as 90% according to recent research. One such CAM therapy that is widely used by fibromyalgia sufferers is massage therapy.

Fibromyalgia massage therapy is a generalized term for the kneading or rubbing of the joints, muscles, tendons and ligaments to relieve the pain and/or tension caused by fibromyalgia. A fibromyalgia massage may range from deep pressure to light stroking depending on the needs of the person receiving the massage. The next section describes some of the many forms of fibromyalgia massage that, according to recent research, may be effective in relieving fibromyalgia symptoms.

    Cupping

    The Benefits of Cupping

    The Benefits of Cupping

Cupping is defined as a vacuum of negative pressure applied with cups that bring circulation and remodel Myofascial tissue below the skin to generate physical change.

The cups can be applied to different areas of the body with a small application of oil to get a proper seal, and the suction can easily be adjusted to the client’s comfort level. After sitting on the skin for a while, the cups can then be moved very slowly over the area of pain to create a “stretch” in the fascia and to focus circulation to that particular area, drawing out toxins and releasing stagnated blood. It can create circular marks called petechiae that may last up to a week. This is normal and should not be cause for concern.

Cupping is one way to experience deep tissue massage more comfortably with greater benefits to the deeper layers. It literally unwinds the fascia, giving you more flexibility and less pain – which is the ultimate goal.

Available as a stand alone 30-minute treatment, or ask for it to be incorporated into your A.M.T. Bodywork appointment.

    Ionic Foot Detox

Ionic Foot Detox is one of Advanced Massage Therapy's newest services for optimum health and vibrant living.

Similar to Acupuncture and Reflexology, Ionic Foot Detox stimulates the body’s energy meridians. Our ionic bath uses the principles of negative ionization, rebalancing energy, and creating a positive cellular environment – helping your body to heal itself, by drawing out unwanted toxins, during the session and for several days afterward.

Clients often add a relaxing foot detox while they’re here for other services, such as Massage, Reflexology, Coaching, Craniosacral Therapy, and Manual Lymph Drainage. (We do not schedule Ionic Foot Detox to occur on the same day as acupressure as they work with meridians.)

    Benefits

Ionic Foot Detox aids with recovery and helps clients experience:

Ability to relax more easily and to sleep restfully

    Improved lymphatic circulation

    Boosted immune system function

    Increase in natural energy levels

    Reduced muscle and joint pain/inflammation

    Reduce pain

    Purging of heavy metals.

    A more balanced pH level.

    Purging of yeast.

    Detoxifying the liver.

Internal cleansing with a full-body purge.

    Liver, kidney, and parasite cleansing.

    What to Expect

    Treatment Room

The location of your Ionic Foot Detox session will depend upon your practitioner and which treatment rooms are available.

    Our Approach for Your Sessions

After reviewing the Foot Detox Service Waiver you completed before your appointment, we’ll explain the Ionic Foot Detox protocol so you know what to expect.

During an Ionic Foot Detox session, negative ions in the footbath attract and extract toxins from inside your body. These toxins are released through the energy meridians in your feet. Expect the foot bath water to turn color as this detoxification occurs.

    Watercolor/toxin removal guide:

Yellow/green — Urinary tract, bladder, kidneys, reproductive organs (gynecological or prostate disorder, kidney or bladder infections)

Black flecks — Heavy metals (memory issues, chronic fatigue, mental fog)

Orange — Joints, muscles (arthritis, rheumatism, gout, neuropathy, fibromyalgia)

Brown — Lungs, cellular debris (smoking, second-hand smoke, air pollution)

White — GI tract (Candida, yeast infections, insomnia, headaches)

Dark green/black — Gallbladder, liver, stomach (gallstones, immune system, acid reflux, nausea)

Red flecks — Blood clot material (arterial blockages, bruising, hypertension, cold hands/feet)

White foam — Lymphatic system (menses disorders, tender/clogged lymph nodes, skin disorders, allergies)

Black — Liver (alcohol use, elevated liver enzymes on bloodwork)

We estimate the toxins you’ll see drawn from your body (into the foot bath water), are only 10% of the total detoxification that will occur. The other 90% happens several days after treatment, as toxic material leaves your body via your excretory system.

It’s important to drink adequate water – to improve toxin excretion and to protect your organs and body systems – the day of (and for several days after) an Ionic Foot Detox bath session.

While one session will definitely kick-start detoxification, some clients more fully experience the benefits of Ionic Foot Detox with 2-3 treatments.

    Fees

$60 (20-30 minutes) treatment times vary depending on the practitioner’s assessment of the client’s needs

    Emotional Healing Massage

Emotional and physical healing are intertwined. Physical issues can have emotional consequences like depression or anxiety, and the opposite is also true. Strong emotions can become stored in the body, often as tension, pain, or dysfunction.

When you receive bodywork and massage or engage in a self-care practice like massage therapy, the release of stress and muscle tension can also bring an emotional release. Often, but not always, this release brings up negative feelings that you may have pushed back, like fear, sadness, or anger. This can be a shifting point in your healing process! Even though it is painful to experience old emotions, this can be what you need to get to the other side.

Bodyworkers are not trained or licensed to provide Mental Health that a counselor could, but they can do a lot to create an opportunity for deep emotional healing. They may slow down or stop the physical process of your session or class in order to let the full emotional release move through. Taking full deep breaths will also help your body release the stored energy on its own, allowing your body to let go and begin the healing process.

I absolutely love going to Advanced Massage Therapy! Both Christine and Jared seem to innately know just what's bothering me, and help make it feel so much better. Can't wait for my next visit. :)

Every massage I've ever gotten started with the therapist asking what kind of pressure I like. Christine just KNEW. She could tell where my muscles were tight without any direction and after the session was over, she gave suggested stretches to help loosen up the tight areas. The room was beautifully decorated and the music was perfect. It really set the mood for relaxation. The face cradle was even scented. Fantastic attention to detail and a wonderful experience overall.

" You are the best massage I have had yet. I like your style and pressure. I would like for you to finish the US tour at Atlantic City and Madison Square Garden this weekend."

This method appeals to my taste. I was able to relax during my appointment and Christine saved all comments for after it was over. The full body massage made me feel as though my 64-year-old muscles are now reset. I feel like I am walking straighter and taller, and this gives me the motivation to keep it this way. She seems to be very confident which makes me confident in her abilities, as well. Highly recommended.

    Rich B.

Awesome massage- one of the best ever. Very professional, focused on me enjoying the experience and addressed my area of stiffness right from the beginning. The hot stones and towel at the end were perfectly timed. And then a bowl of heated towels to clean off rubbing lotion. That was pleasantly unexpected. Christine even went beyond the hour. Can't wait to go back!

Jared was great! I wanted a relaxing, yet somewhat therapeutic massage, and Jared did both, very well. This was the best massage that I have had in quite sometime and I felt great when Jared was done. I set up another appointment with him before leaving. Thanks again Jare !!
